VA Health Apps: Mental health on the go.

It seems like these days everything and everyone has an app. If you open up your iOS or Android app store you'll be inundated by the endless amount of applications that promise everything from increased productivity to automated budgeting ( which is an absolute lie because it still makes you plug in all the random data that I hate doing in the first place). But tucked away within the vastness of app space there are some amazing mental health resources that can be used by anyone.

Whether you need some additional coaching for anxiety or need some tools for managing your anger. There's an app for you waiting in the app store. But before you start randomly downloading apps, let's take a look at some of the most recommended and used apps that you can find FOR FREE on the VA mobile app page. Tons of apps that can help you if you need some immediate help, below are some of the apps that I think we should all us. Remember, no app can replace the one on one care that your provider can give you. These apps are not meant to replace your human Doctor or Mental Health practitioner.

The AIMS for Anger Management app is an app that will help you get through the daily ups and downs of anger management. It offers users a simple and useful way to track their anger, create an anger management plan, the ability to access provider recommended tools to help manage reactions to anger. It even has a find support feature.

The Couples Coach app is a great resource for couples trying to navigate normal, everyday issues. No, this app won't force your wife to finally make up her mind and decide what she wants to eat for dinner, but it does offer great insight and helpful tips on how to better communicate with each other. If you struggle with PTSD it even offers information on how to navigate that within a relationship. It even has a feature that lets you search for a professional counselor.

If you've listened to our podcast long enough you know that we love and promote the benefits of Mindfulness non-stop, so it should come as no surprise that one of our favorite apps available is the Mindfulness Coach app. This app comes packed with Mindfulness exercises! It provides the user with the goal tracker feature and it allows you to track your progress and set reminders. It also allows you to access support features and crisis resources.

The app that I want all of you to get TODAY, is Insomnia Coach.

If you struggle with getting good sleep consistently, you need this app. The app provides easy tools and information to start you on your journey towards getting better sleep. Sleep is the most vital aspect of self-care. Why? Because if you can't sleep you can't recover, your body can't down-regulate, and if you can't sleep you're not present in the moment! So before you download any app, do a quick self-assessment and download an Insomnia help app. I guarantee that it will be well worth it!

Some other apps that you should consider getting will be discussed in future posts. Until next time, remember... AS LONG AS WE'RE TOGETHER THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS!
